Will I go to jail if I write a bad check?

Posted under Sell and Rent Back by admin on Tuesday 30 March 2010 at 9:35 am

I’m on temp. disability for my back, and I’ve spent all of my money on bills etc. But now I’m broke and still owe rent, and just need money to survive.I’ve closed my bank acct. but still have blank checks, I no it’s wrong to write insufficient funds. But what will happen if I write a check for 00 for merchandise to sell for money?

i cant believe you go to jail for writing bad checks so what dictatorship do you live in is it saudi or iran oops sorry you dont goto jail in these countries for writing a bad check in the uk you get charged 28 pounds for each bad check and if you fail to pay your given a fine of about oops costs of about 200 pounds added also given a county court judgment which stays with you for 6 yrs so you cant get credit so say you write 5 bad checks it works out at about 300 to 400 charges but you can pay these back at what you can afford say 2 pounds aweek but prison never over here prison is for criminals not desperate people GOOD LUCK

you will go to jail. You will have no defense and you will not be able to say you didn’t know it was bad since the account is closed.
Even if you can’t pay rent, it takes a while to get evicted so you will have a little time to figure something else out.

You may not actually go to jail but you will have to make good on the check eventually,to avoid being prosecuted.

Its sounds like you’d love to go to prison. Because writing bad checks on closed accounts or sometimes having NSF (Non Sufficient Funds) is considered a felony, that’s where you’ll be heading is straight to prison.
Pay the late fee with the landlord and stay out of prison.

Not only will you have prison time and probation/parole, you’ll end up having to pay back restitution for that check that could up end being thousands more dollars.

So think about it. Doing prison time and payng money you don’t have for years and years to restitution, court fines ect….. or making arrangements with the landlord and keeping your freedom and not having a criminal record. I choose the 2nd but then again its your life. Your choice.

    Good Luck!

Writing a cheque against a closed account is Fraud. The Company you issued it to, will demand their goods back from you and if you fail to comply then you will be charged with, will almost certainly get you on the charge of "gaining goods under false pretences"
This is trouble big time. don’t be tempted.
