single mum wanting to go back to education?
i am a single mum with good job and mortgage
i want to go back to education to train to be a teacher which will mean giving up work
i cannot get housing benefit for my mortgage so will have to find somewhere to rent – i cant rent my current flat out as the council will view that as income even though it will be going to pay a mortgage so my only option is to sell my flat but i could end up loosing money with the economy the way it is
what options do i have, i want to make a better life for myself and son but at the moment its looking near impossible!!!
with tough times for job seekers, I always see needed help in the health care field, once in school, housing benefits should kick in w/ low income
can you not sign the house over to your mother or something? that way they house cant be treated as income if you mkoved from it (dodgy yes but you would be mad to climb down from the housing ladder now your on it!) then rent the house out but have your mom as the landlord.
I wouldnt sell if i were you especially not in todays financial market, if this isnt possible perhaps wait another year or two until things have stabilised then do it
im really sorry but the only way to do is move in with family.. its not a good idea to sell the hosue.. if its not that important to become a teacher just hold out for a bit
Single mom doing the same thing!!!
Move your child into the room with you and rent out the other room. Get a part time job if you really cannot keep your job. Go to a school where you can take a good amount of your classes online. (I take all of my classes back to back on Tuesdays and Thursdays and then work the other days while my son is in school).
Re-training whilst you’re raising kids doesn’t always mean selling up and giving up your job. Do you have family around you that could support you in returning to evening study?. If not then the other option you should consider is to approach your employers for a part-time position, also approach your local college/university for part-time courses (and of course explain your situation), and lastly contact the Open University whereby you can study at home, at your own pace.
If you take a part-time position with your current employer you will be entitled to more Working Tax Credit along with Child Tax Credit which should help towards the payments of your mortgage.
Have a look at the site below and put in your estimated hours of work and hourly rate which should give you some indication as to what you will be entitled to as far as Working Tax and Child Tax are concerned.
Also contact your local Jobcentre who may be able to put you in touch with local colleges if only for advice at this stage.
Don’t give up, your dream is right around the corner waiting for you, just takes some arranging!
Good Luck x
