Regarding rent allowance in dublin?

Posted under Sell and Rent Back by admin on Sunday 28 March 2010 at 4:51 am

Hi,

Just wondering if anybody can help, im currently renting a room and recieving rent allowance, but my landlord (who actually lives in the house)is moving abroad and selling the house.
So me and my boyfriend have decided to rent a place together, the only place we can actually afford is a 3bedroomed house, as its actually the only place thats asking for reasonable rent. (cheaper than a 1bedroomed apartment)
Will i still be able to claim rent allowance? My boyfriend is working but as an apprentice electrician, and only gets 210 euro a week.
Would we be able to claim couples rent allowance? or would i loose my rent allowance altogether because he works?
I am currently unemployed but eager to get back into work, although this is proving difficult.

Any help would be much appreciated..

you would loose if you mention that 1st you are cohabiting (living together) 2nd that he has an income , you can apply as a single person for rent assistance, but may have to explain why you want a 3/bed house
